The Salt Lake Board of REALTORS reported sales of existing homes and condominiums in Salt Lake County climbed 21 percent in May compared to the same month a year ago. There were 1,231 homes and condos sold in May compared to 1,020 in the same month last year.
From January through May, sales of homes and condos in Salt Lake County were up 24 percent compared to the same five-month period last year (4,587 sales compared to 3,701 sales.)
Home and condo sales in May (compared to the same month in previous years) were the strongest on record since May 2007, when 1,588 residential properties were sold.
The median price of all residential properties sold in May was $200k, down 11 percent compared to a median price of $225k in May 2009.
There are currently 7,307 active listings of homes and condos for sale in Salt Lake County. Based on pending sales over the past year, those listings represent a 8.3 month supply of housing inventory, down from 10.2 month supply of inventory in May 2009.
